BACK TO AIRPORTS
Location: The airport is located 13km east of New York City.
TERMINALS: There are five terminals. Here is a map.
Air Canada usually flies into section A of the Central Airport Terminal. Some airlines
(Delta etc) have their own dedicated terminals.
SHUTTLE TO JOHN F KENNEDY AIRPORT (JFK).
Most international flights (South African Airways included) leave from JFK. Many Canada
and US domestic flights fly into La Guardia. Time should be allowed for a connection by
bus. The New York Airport Service Bus leaves La Guardia every 30 minutes - 6am to 10pm.
The trip takes approximately 45 minutes (unless there are traffic problems) and costs
US$11 per person. The cost of the shuttle may however be included if a through ticket has
been purchased and a separate shuttle van may be provided. Check with the South Africa
Fares Travel Fulfillment Centre at the time of booking. Taxis to JFK cost between US$19
and US$22 and take approximately 30 minutes.
TAKE A BREAK Facilities for tired travellers are limited and there are no showers.
A QUICK LOOK AT NEW YORK; Take a taxi downtown
and pick up a tour to the Statue of Liberty or Ellis Island. Gray Line offers excellent
downtown tours that last 3 hours. The cost is US$35 for adults and US$25 for children The
tour runs frequently through the day
TRANSFER BETWEEN TERMINALS: The Route A Airline Connection Bus is a free service
running every 15 minutes 0600-1130 between all terminals. The Route B bus runs
every 10-15 minutes 0600-0200 and between all five terminals except the Marine Air
Terminal/Delta Shuttle.
INFORMATION AND HELP DESKS: Information desks (tel: 718 533 3400) can be found at various
points throughout the central terminal building. Information on ground transportation and

AIRPORT FACILITIES: Money and communications: ATMs and bureaux de change can be
found in the Central Terminal, the US Airways Terminal and the Delta Terminal.
Eating and drinking: There are many restaurants and fast food outlets in all
terminals. Shopping: Gift shops and duty-free shops are located in the Central and
Delta Terminals. Other facilities: A Family Assistance Restroom is located in the
Central Terminal. The airport has a medical and dental service.
DISABLED FACILITIES: The airport is fully accessible to disabled travellers; TDD phones
and disabled toilets are available in all terminals. Unaccompanied disabled passengers
should inform their airline in advance of any special assistance they may need. All
airport shuttle buses are accessible to disabled travellers. All car parks have dedicated
disabled spaces.
CONFERENCE AND BUSINESS FACILITIES: Business and conference facilities are located in the Laptop
Lane business centre (tel: 718 424 1301; fax: 718 397 2342) at the Central Terminal.
Eight individual cubicles and a conference room for 12 people are available; all are
equipped with desktop computers, a five-line telephone, fax machine, laser printer and
dataports. Fax and Internet services are also available at the Business Traveler Center
located in the Central Terminal Building.
CAR HIRE: Car hire companies include Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz
and National. Hertz and Avis provide adapted cars for disabled
drivers.
CAR PARKING: Short-term parking is available in car parks 1, 4, 5, 6 and 7. Long-term
parking is available in car park 3, although there are limited spaces. Additional
long-term car parking is located very close to the airport and these can be accessed by

DRIVING DIRECTIONS: From Manhattan, take Grand Central Parkway East; from Long Island,
take Grand Central Parkway West.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT: Road: Taxi: Official taxis are available to all areas. Bus: There
