BACK TO AIRPORTS
LOCATION The airport is located 22km east
of Cape Town on the N22 motorway. Simply follow the signs but be aware that the
road for a short while runs near shanty areas and stopping is not recommended.
TERMINALS: There are five
terminals. Passengers flying in from overseas will arrive at International Arrivals
and leave from International Departures in the same building. If flying on to
another destination in South Africa they will have to transfer to one of the two Domestic
Departure terminals.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT: Road: Taxis
are available from the airport; (journey time into city centre: approximately 20 minutes);
Touch Down Taxis are the officially authorised airport taxi company. Bus: Shuttle
services are available on demand or by prebooking in Arrivals. Shuttle buses take
passengers on request to their destination. Schedules vary according to flight arrival
times and passengers can also prebook their return trip to the airport.
AIRPORT FACILITIES: Money and communications: Banks and bureaux de change are located
in Domestic and International Departures, as well as in International Arrivals; there are
also ATMs in Domestic Arrivals and Departures. A post office is located just outside the
main landside entrance to the Domestic Arrivals Terminal. Mobile telephone rental is
available in Domestic and International Arrivals, as well as in Domestic Departures
(airside). A VAT refund service is provided. Eating and drinking: Food and drink
outlets can be found throughout the airport. Food outlets at the airport include a
restaurant, bar, sports café, coffee shop, juice bar, bar and grill, and sandwich shop. Shopping:
Duty-free shopping, including a wine shop, is situated in International Departures
(airside). Shops also include a pharmacy, clothing accessories shop, bookshop, sweet shop
and gift shop. Luggage: Baggage storage facilities are just outside the main
entrance to the Domestic Arrivals Terminal (tel: (0)21 556 0245 (for porters) or 934
2141 for group arrangements). Other facilities: The airport surgery is located at
the north end of the International Arrivals Terminal (tel: (0)21 934 2246). Baby changing
facilities can be found in all ladies' toilets in both the International and Domestic
terminals.
DISABLED FACILITIES: The airport is
equipped with lifts, ramps and disabled toilets. Further assistance for all disabled
passengers is available on request from the Passenger Aid Unit. Wheelchairs can
also be supplied if required. Passengers are advised to inform their airline of any
special needs in advance.
CONFERENCE AND BUSINESS FACILITIES: Business
and first class lounges are located in Departures and there is a VIP facility adjacent to
Domestic Departures in Terminal A (tel: (0)21 937 1200). An Airport Training Centre and
conference venue is located some distance from the terminals; contact the VIP Centre (tel:
(0)21 937 1233) for information and reservations.
CAR HIRE: Avis, Budget,
Europcar and Hertz, as well as several other smaller operators are
represented. Car hire desks are located inside the Arrivals terminals. The car hire zones
are located outside, either opposite the International Terminal or next to the Domestic
Arrivals Terminal.
CAR PARKING: Cars can be parked in
the shade along the full length of the terminal buildings and shuttle buses are available
to transport travellers to the relevant terminal. Shuttle buses can be called from
communication links in one of ten bus shelters and from public car park managers (tel:
(0)21 934 0122). Valet parking and lock-up garages (tel: (0)21 934 2240) are also
available, although these facilities must be booked in advance.
